Severson is an absolute stud at 4M. I consider him to be better than Trouba. If Smith continues to improve, we could have our top 4 D (pk, sev, smith, butch) inked for under 18M, while matching the leagues best. Lot's to be happy about with Severson! - bikeguy99
IDK... Severson put up more 3 more goals but 11 fewer assists.
Both played 82 games. Total point are 39 vs 50 pts in favor of Trouba.
Severson had an ugly -27 vs. Trouba's +8. I know its a bad stat but Severson hasn't had one + year and Trouba hasn't had a - year on the NHL level.
Trouba is a better defender.
Bang for your buck you can make an argument but overall not so much....

Severson played on a team with no forwards. Trouba played on a playoff team with a lot of good forwards. You're going to get a lot less assists if nobody on your team can actually score or play offense.
+/- is pointless. We were one of the worse teams in the league with terrible goaltending. One again, Severson has only played on bad teams while Trouba has only played on good teams. He's much more sheltered. |

Fair enough. This year should be a make for a more equitable comparison. |

IMO Hynes is getting the best out of Severson where most wouldn't. In 17-18 Severson was a healthy scratch several times. He was by far not the worst defenseman where he deserved to be the guy getting scratched. He was admittedly angry about it because he didn't think he was playing bad. He was getting benched because he wasn't playing to his potential. He proved it to him & we got a significantly better Severson in 18-19. It earned him a spot on team Canada for the world's. When injuries hit he & Darnell Nurse were on the top pairing. All of the announcers & analysts had nothing but great things to say about him. That says a lot to me because there's 0 bias like our announcers & analysts that cover them & will naturally start to root for the Devil's. I'd love to see if he could switch to the left & play with PK. Put Butcher & Sami on the 2nd pair. Let Greene Mentor Ty on the 3rd pair where Ty can stay on the right side which is where he's been playing. There's so many different pairings they could go with. Basically Greene Butcher & Sami all could be on the 1st 2nd or 3rd pairing. I'd really like to see Greene & Ty together. Offense is clearly Ty's strength & pairing him with our only true stay at home D man will maximize his offense. He will learn the most about defense from Greene. Nobody really knows if Greene will retire next yr or not. I'd love to see how much value he brings to the 3rd pair plus he could get down to around 18-20 minutes with PK time. If it works out really well maybe we can sign him for another yr or 2. The reduction in minutes could extend his career. If he plays this season & 2 more he'll love to be back in the playoffs competing for a Cup. |

Hopefully a decrease in Green'e TOI would help him. Last year he started to look tired and old. The question will be which of Vatanen, Severson and Smith will be able to play effectively on the left side. My money is on Vatanen. He's the most experienced and should be ok. Severson is excelling on the right side, where he's always been, and Smith is a rookie and used to playing well on the right side up until now, even though he's a lefty. Maybe they move him to the left because of that, but I agree that I'd like him with Greene on the 3rd pair, put Butcher with Severson and Vatanen with Subban. |

The jets have been a better team that entire span lol makes more sense for him to have a higher plus minus then sevs. |

I know Trouba played on a much much better team, but still being a career minus player is startling..even when nj made the playoffs on Taylor halls back (literally) Damon was a minus 8..tellss me he is more of a 20 minute guy than a true number one..hes just too inconsistent on defense although he is getting better..his true calling will always be offense |

Yes Trouba was on a wagon of a team. If you look at every other season he played through his first 5 seasons, his high was only 32 points. And if you look at his playoff numbers......Yikes. Anyway, I would happily have him on my roster at 4M, than Trouba at 8M. He is good and only getting better! |

Lets hope that Zacha and Bratt were jokes...... Hughes, Nico, Smith, Blackwood all have extremely high ceilings! Bratt sure has shown glimpses of greatness tho. Zacha looks awsome....In warmups. |

Bratt has 68 points in 125 games and just turned 21 last week. Most of his peers from that draft class haven’t finished college or are still in juniors. I think Bratts ceiling is very high, I wasn’t joking. He was a great find in the 6th round. |

I don’t get it sometimes. It’s like 6th round draft picks routinely jump straight into the NHL and put up a half a point a game. |

It would be nice if McLeod could put something together and become a regular. |

He has the wheels. He played in a Defensive role in the worlds. Maybe peg him to be our Madden? Give him one role and see how he does? |
